Neuroscience

One point of contact of two neurons is known as the synapse.  A chemical, a neurotransmitter, is released in order to cause an electrical signal to propagate to another neuron.

Neurons

There are chemical neurons and there are electrical ones. The latter are rare, the vast majority are chemical neurons.

A neuron initiates a signal, an electric potential, that can travel to another neuron.

The brain consists of nerve cells known as neurons. There is an estimated 1 billion to one trillion of these - impossible to count. It takes about 1 million neurons to fire to form a simple human thought or action - with rare exceptions. There are neurons which cause a reflex action and these can be singular and yet can accomplish complex reflex reactions.
